Our shelter was lucky to be nominated and to be a recent recipient of the Rescue Rebuild project, a program of Greater Good and funded by Mars Petcare US! In addition to a much needed facelift, our facility also received a marvelous cat room and catio that the Shelter Volunteers will use for their Cat Program! Huge shout out and thank you to Mars Petcare US not only for their consideration and help on this but for the volunteers they provided for the labor!!
About the Shelter Volunteer Cat Program:
Most residents know that the Lewisburg Animal Shelter is a dog only facility and does not take in stray cats. If someone calls to report stray cats we have them contact Animal Rescue Assistance Team here in Marshall County to see if they can assist. On occasion we will have people come in asking if we have cats to adopt and thus the program was born. The Volunteers are partnering with ARATT to provide an outlet for adoptions of cats their group takes in. The cats receive vet care, spay/neuter, vaccinations and deworming. The volunteers started renovating a small storage room at the shelter to turn it into a cat room. We can hold up to four cats at a time that are available for adoption. Since implementing the adoption program in the Spring of 2017 we have found homes for 16 cats. We currently have 4 cats in holding that will be available soon. We are always in need of litter and cat food if anyone would like to donate toward our cats. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter during business hours. We will also share excess donations with ARATT.
