The Lewisburg Animal Shelter is a dog only facility and city municipality which strives to create a shelter environment where all dogs in our care receive appropriate vetting, love, and attention at all times. To ensure the best possible quality of life for all of our animals we work hard to promote respect and reverence by establishing and maintaining as low kill a facility as possible. By working with volunteers and rescues, hundreds of animal’s lives are saved each year in our county. We strive to ensure our animals are placed in loving, responsible, committed permanent homes, following an adoption processes which includes taking care in finding good matches among our dogs for prospective adopters. Animals in our facility are spayed or neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested and treated if positive, and receive any needed veterinary care while they await placement into their forever homes. The Lewisburg Animal Shelter also provides the essential services for reuniting lost pets with their owners. Working together with local animal welfare groups, the shelter promotes community spay and neuter programs, maintains a Pet Food Pantry for the community, and participates in several adoption and community outreach events within the community.
For the year 2017 our statistics were as follows:
131 Returned to owners
13 Euthanasias (dogs deemed not adoptable)
5 Died from sickness (too sick at vet to save or passed in shelter)
1 Other (cat)
All adoptable dogs to enter the shelter were adopted, pulled by rescue or returned to owners. For 2017 our live save rate was 95% with a total of 405 intakes for the year.

Every Penny Counts:
The city provides food and shelter for the dogs in the shelter but it is up to the volunteers to provide anything else, including toys, materials to market the dogs, office supplies, and we also assist in emergency vet care for dogs who normally would not receive it. If you can help out financially in any of these instances please click on the paypal link and help us out. Every penny counts! We are currently accepting donations to pledge toward adoption fees and to pay for extra vetting the city funding doesn't cover for our shelter dogs. The Volunteer Fund is NOT tax deductible. If you wish to make your donation tax deductible, you can donate directly to the City of Lewisburg's Shelter Spay and Neuter fund. Ask our Shelter Manager for details.
